Liquid Distributor High performance liquid distributors aim towards ideal liquid distribution, i.e. equal liquid rate per unit area of the packed bed surface. These distributors are available in a complete range to suit various column diameters, liquid rates and service conditions. Models, which can give turndown ratio upto 10:1, are available. Our design team selects the most suitable model for a given application.

The following types are available:

  • Distributor With Flow Multiplier
  • Distributor Pan Type
  • Distributor Pipe Arm Type
  • Distributor Riser Deck Type
  • Distributor Riser Deck With End Closure
  • Distributor Spray Nozzle Type
  • Distributor Trough Type With Parting Box
  • Distributor Trough Type With Sump
  • Distributor V Weir Type

Bed Limiter Bed limiters are safety devices that are available for both random as well structured packing to avoid the expansion of the packed bed, as well as to maintain the bed top surface level.

The following types are available:

  • Bed Limiter for Random Packing
  • Bed Limiter for Structured Packing
  • Hold Down Plate

Support Plate Support plates in addition to providing physical support to the packings, must also allow unrestricted flow of gas and liquid. Gas injection support plates provide separate passageways for liquid and gas, which minimizes the pressure drop across the plate. Support plate model is selected depending upon the packing type and size and the maximum design load to be supported.

The following types are available:

  • Support Plate
  • Support Grid

Collector Tray Collector trays are used to collect liquid from between packed beds. Liquid interception is required in various situations such as total or partial draw-off of liquid, change in the column diameter, which sometimes necessitates the redistribution of the liquid; to cool the liquid in absorbers before passing to the next packed bed etc. Different types of Collector trays are available to suit the column diameter and the vapor and liquid rates.

The following types are available:

  • Collector Tray
  • Vane Collector Tray
Collector/Chimney Tray
Different Feed devices are available for various feed conditions of the fluid entering the column such as only liquid feed, mixed feed or gaseous feed. Feed devices are selected to complement with the type of Distributor used to give the optimum performance.

The following types are available:
  • Liquid Feed Pipe
  • Flash Feed Gallery
  • Flash Feed Chamber
  • Flashing Feed Pipe
  • Vapor Inlet Device
  • Vapor Distributor Plate

Liquid - Liquid
Extraction Internals
Packing is used in counter-current liquid/liquid contactors to facilitate mass transfer. The heavier phase is introduced from the top which flows downward and exits the column at the bottom. The lighter phase on the other hand enters the bottom and exits the column at the top. Depending on the process one of the phases is the continuous phase and the other is dispersed phase. Special internals are used to introduce the two liquid phases, especially the dispersed phase. Selection & arrangesment of the internals depends on which phase (Light or heavy) is continuous and which is dispersed. In all cases use of feed pipes for directing the feed, light and heavy, to the disperser are recommended to control velocity.

In contactors where the light phase (feed which enters the bottom of the tower) is dispersed, packed beds are supported by the Light Phase disperser support plate. In addition to supporting the packing, the plates allow proper dispersion or formation of small droplets which rise through the continuous phase. In breaking the dispersed liquid into small droplets, the Light Phase disperser support plate provides maximum initial contact area between the two phases. Because the droplets tend to coalesce in the packing, beds are typically limited to a depth of 6 to 8 ft (1.5 to 2.5m). Multiple beds, each supported by a Light Phase disperser support plate, are recommended where a total of more than 8ft (2.5m) of packing is required.

When the heavy phase (feed which enters the top of the tower) is dispersed, heavy Phase disperser plate is used above the top bed. When multiple beds are required, the heavy Phase disperser plate is also used to support the upper beds and collect and disperse the heavy phase to the beds below. The bottom bed is supported by conventional support plate. The heavy Phase disperser plate, although structurally different, is hydraulically upside-down compared to the Light Phase disperser support plate. In heavy phase dispersed contactors, the same bed depth recommendations apply as with light-phase dispersement.

It is generally recommended to disperse the phase with the higher flow rate to generate maximum interfacial contact. The exception to this rule is when the higher volumetric flow rate phase has higher viscosity or preferentially wets the packing surface.

Surfactants may alter surface properties to the extent that the performance of a liquid / liquid contactor cannot be predicted.

The following types are available:

  • Light Phase Disperser Support Plate
  • Heavy Phase Disperser Support Plate

Liquid Liquid Extraction Internals
FRP Internals KEVIN is also in a position to offer tower internals i.e. bed limiters, distributors, support plates, etc. in a variety of polymer materials including FRP, polypropylene, CPVC and PVDF. These internals are designed to provide optimum performance and operating conditions. Major advantages of plastic internals are their lightweight construction and chemical resistance in turn leading to extended life of internals.

KEVIN also engineers ( hydraulic & mechanical design) of all major internals for packed tower like packing support, bed limiters, various types of distributors & collector trays, liquid and vapor feed inlet devices etc. These internals can be supplied up-to a column diameter of 7000 mm. Also offered are services for reviewing the column drawings and attachments typical for non-metallic internals.

The following types are available:

  • FRP Feed Pipe
  • FRP Distributor Trough Type With Parting Box
  • FRP Bed Limiter
  • FRP Support Plate
